Very cool idea. Students really do find safety and the scientific method to be quite boring. I think your ideas would get most of them more engaged while still holding them accountable. Also, I thought you did a great job with camtasia.
Julie, I like that you want to make lab safety an engaging and fun concept instead of the boring concept it was when most of us were in high school. I like that your project has students completing a variety of tasks and assignments. Nice job.

I LOVE your idea! My kids are BORED out of their minds learning more rules they don't want to follow while learning about lab safety and the scientific method. I also used Edmodo. What did you think of it as a course development tool?
I love the inclusion of the lab safety and procedures within your online course. Furthermore, I saw one of my school's science teachers use virtual certificates, and I think it is a great idea as a rewards system for student motivation, but also a great way for you to formatively assess student progress as the complete assignments and tasks.
I think that a video game style would be a great way for students to learn the material since it can get quite boring at times. Making things more interactive will help keep the attention of students thus they are actually learning and wanting to learn more.

ReplyDeleteGreat idea to use a video game. That will be a great way to get a student motivated. Also I did the rock candy lab and that is one of my favorites.
